In this instalment, we meet Kelly Pattison, Key Account Manager at Alliance Tool Hire. To find out more about Kelly, from her role at Alliance to the business she used to run for 13 years before she joined the team, continue reading.
How long have you worked at Alliance Tool Hire and how did you end up in your current role?
Since January 2020. Before that, I used to run my own childcare business for 13 years.
It’s quite a funny story, how I came into this role. My husband is chairman of a local cricket club in the North East (where I live) and I was volunteering there one weekend behind the bar when a gentleman walked in, and we got chatting.
He was really interesting. Turns out he was the previous Key Account Manager at Alliance Tool Hire but on the verge of retiring. He told me all about his job and it sounded so different but such a challenge. I said; “That’s actually something I’d love to do.” Next thing I knew, he’d got me an interview and I got the job!
At the time, the childcare business was perfect as I had two small kids and it let me look after them whilst working full time. But they’re grown up now, and I wanted to talk to adults day to day. I work from home, and I absolutely love it. The people, the job, my customers.
What do you do as Key Account Manager?
I’m the main account handler for the business so I oversee our biggest customers.
I send customer orders and collections to the correct depot, and ensure all invoices are accurate. Any queries sit with me, and I oversee all website enquiries too.
What gets you ready and raring to go in the morning?
It’s usually my son’s 6am alarm clock! He sets it for an hour before he gets up and sleeps through it every time.
What are your proudest achievements in your professional and personal life?
Professional: Running and managing a successful business for 13 years. I also completed my degree in Supporting Education and Childcare whilst looking after two kids under the age of 5, studying at night and working full time in the day.
Personal: This one is more of a proud mum moment for me. My son got selected for the Under 18 Durham County Cricket Club age 16, and in his third game, he scored 5 wickets for 4 runs off 2 overs – for those who don’t know the cricket lingo, that basically means he got 5 people out in only 4 runs. It’s very impressive!
What does a perfect Saturday night look like for you?
In the local cricket club with my husband, followed by karaoke. Adele is my favourite go-to, or Son of a Preacher by Dusty Springfield!
Tell us three things about your role that you want your customers to know.
I’m conscientious, organised and efficient – if I do something, it has to be right.
I’ll go above and beyond to make sure my customers get what they need, when they need it.
I’m hardworking, and I thrive on challenges and learning new things.
If you could invite anyone to dinner, who would it be and why?
It’d have to be Adele so she can give me singing tips for my karaoke night!
