Time to clear the air: 3 ways of keeping dust at bay!

However neat and tidy you are, if you’re cutting, drilling or sanding and there’s masonry involved, then you’re going to create some dust.

This unwelcome hazard of the job is not only messy, it can also be bad for your health: exposure to dust can cause irritation to the skin and eyes, and can also act as a trigger for more serious respiratory conditions in some cases.

Just check out the HSE’s Dust Hub for all the information and guidance you need on the subject, including a useful reminder that the most dangerous dust particles are often the ones that are invisible to the naked eye.

Goggles and masks are a good starting point for protection, but at Alliance we have an expanding range of ‘plug and go’ dust-busting equipment for hire to help our customers bring the problem under more control. Our range includes:

DC Aircube 2000

Shifting 1,800 cubic metres of air per hour, the DC Aircube 2000 is our most powerful single-phase air cleaner. Air is forced through a pre-filter for the initial capture of larger dust particles, before passing through a high-efficiency particulate (HEPA) filter. This separates out at least 99.95% of particles in the dangerous 0.15 – 0.3 µm range, including viruses, bacteria and pollen as well as dust.

Hilti M-class Construction Vacuum
Although designed for dust extraction in harsh building environments, Hilti’s vacuum units are also compact and manoeuvrable, and can be attached to a range of power tools to contain dust at source. ‘M-class’ indicates that filtration is superior to entry level ‘L class’ equipment, and the air filter can be cleaned as soon as necessary to maintain performance, with display indicators to show the filter status and suction strength.

Elite Fume Extractor

This versatile dual-purpose machine can be used with flexible ducting to remove hazardous fumes or airborne dust particles from the atmosphere. At the same time, it can be used as a blower to introduce fresh air into enclosed spaces.

Sadly, it’s not possible to make sites completely dust-free, but at Alliance we make it as easy as possible to bring in equipment to minimise its presence in the atmosphere, helping keep the working environment cleaner and the workforce safer.
